Chiang Mai University's Faculty of Political Science wanted more than a website — a real e-learning platform. It had to host structured online courses in global citizenship and political education, serve both CMU students and outside learners through clear sign-in and registration, and stay quick and easy on a phone, where a lot of the studying actually happens.
The content is heavy — political theory, global citizenship, the SDGs, social issues — and the platform had to make it approachable without dumbing it down. Long-form courses, news and intensive programs all needed room to breathe, while keeping a strong faculty identity and still feeling like a modern product rather than a university info page.
It also had to fit CMU's own systems: separate sign-in for CMU students (cmu.ac.th) and general learners using email access links instead of passwords, on a structure that can grow with more courses, more instructors and future initiatives without a rebuild.
We designed around three journeys: a prospective learner who needs to grasp what Global Citizenship CMU is and get nudged toward courses; a CMU student who wants to sign in with their university email and get straight into what they're enrolled in; and an external lifelong-learning student who registers and lands in the same polished experience. That shaped a clean nav — Home, All Courses, Instructors, MOU & Intensive Programs, News & Events, Contact.
The design opens on a clear hero — "Are you ready to be a Global Citizen?" — that frames the platform and links straight to courses. Course cards surface titles and entry points without clutter, and the type and colour system reads academic but not dull: serious enough for university content, friendly enough for self-paced study. It's all mobile-first, so sign-in, "start learning" and browsing courses are thumb-friendly.
Graphio built it on our modern stack — a Next.js frontend with a secure, API-driven backend. Public pages (home, courses, instructors, news) are server-rendered for fast first loads and search visibility. Sign-in uses passwordless email access links tied to CMU and Lifelong Education domains, and the backend stores courses, learner profiles and future modules without leaning on a rigid off-the-shelf LMS theme.
Because it serves Thai and international learners, the layouts are built for both languages — room for longer Thai strings and multi-line labels — and the content types for courses, instructors, news and special programs let the faculty keep everything current themselves.
We kept the Faculty of Political Science and Public Administration front and centre — logo, address, contact — while giving the product its own identity as Global Citizenship CMU: a dedicated learning environment, not a subpage of the main university site.
Global Citizenship CMU went from an idea and scattered materials to a working e-learning platform: a branded home for the courses, live sign-in and registration for CMU students and outside learners, and a clear path from "interested in the topic" to "enrolled and learning" in a few clicks.
Learners now reach deep political and citizenship courses on any device, mobile included, with fast loads and clean layouts, and can browse every course, instructor and event in a real structure instead of digging through PDFs. For the faculty, it's a living hub that grows with new courses and MOU programs.
The platform credits Graphio as the build partner ("Powered by Graphio"), and it's a solid example of taking an academic concept — global citizenship education — and turning it into a real, production-grade product, designed and engineered end to end.
